Errors Costly In Threshers' Defeat

A pair of costly errors paved the way for a 4-2 Manatee victory Tuesday (July 5).

Second baseman Cesar Hernandez has been a bright spot for the Threshers all season. His batting average is now .257 but his strength is his exceptional defense. In 67 games this season he has committed just seven errors, however the one that got by him on Tuesday would lead to the first Manatee run.

Again in the sixth, a throwing error by pitcher Brody Colvin on a sacrifice bunt would allow two runners to score.

The hot bat of Darin Ruf would bring the Threshers back in the seventh. The Omaha, Neb. native, who is now batting over .300 on the year, singled with the bases loaded, knocking in two runs.

On Deck: The Manatees will entertain the Threshers again Wednesday (July 6). The Threshers finish up their four game series with Brevard County Thursday before returning home to face the Jupiter Hammerheads on Friday. 

Need to Know: The Gulf Coast Phillies defeated the Gulf Coast Braves 3-1 Tuesday. Third baseman Carlos Valenzuela, hit his second homerun of the season. Closer Jim Birmingham kept his scoreless inning streak intact including a pair of strikeouts.
