Remembering Pinellas High School

Former Pinellas County Commissioner Calvin Harris (Class of 1959) is the keynote speaker at this evening of remembrance honoring Pinellas Junior/Senior High.

The school served black students from Largo, Clearwater, Dunedin, Safety Harbor and Tarpon Springs from 1934 to 1968, when desegregation was underway, organizers say. Former graduates, teachers and principals also are expected to attend and reflect on how their experiences at the school shaped their futures.

The school was originally on Madison Avenue, but in 1954, a new school was built on Palmetto Street, the current site of Clearwater Intermediate.
