Clearwater Woman Fatally Shoots Intruder In Bedroom: Police

A Clearwater woman awoke Tuesday to find an intruder in her bedroom. He attacked her and she grabbed a gun and killed him, police said.

CLEARWATER, FL — Clearwater police homicide detectives are investigating a fatal shooting in the 1600 block of Flagler Drive in which a woman shot an intruder in her bedroom in self-defense, officials said.

Police said a woman called 911 about 8:49 a.m. Tuesday after waking up to find an intruder in her bedroom. The man began to attack her, and she was able to grab a gun and shoot him, police said in a report.

The 26-year-old man, whose identity will not be released until family members are notified, died at the scene, investigators said.

The woman's name will not be released per Marsy's Law, a state law that prevents law enforcement from releasing the name of crime victims.
