Five Ways to get Around Clearwater Beach

It is hard to travel by car around Clearwater Beach during spring break. Here are some alternative transportation options.

As local residents well know, no one wants to travel by car around Clearwater Beach during spring break. Not unless you enjoy sitting in traffic and endless waiting to eventually merge into the roundabout.

Luckily, there are many ways to get around on the beach without having to step foot in a car, truck or motor home.

After riding your bike down to the beach, explore these alternative methods of navigating the beach during the chaotic spring break season:

  1. Foot – the most obvious mode of transport is also the best way to experience all the beach has to offer. A walk from one end of the beach to the other might take a couple of hours, but there is so much to see and do along the way, it’s well worth it. Plus you’ll get a great tan, too.
  2. Bike - the easiest way to get to the beach is also one of the best ways to get around once you’re down there. With the new Beach Walk trail spanning the length of the south end of the beach, it’s easy to navigate through traffic and stop to soak up the sights along the way.
  3. Trolley – the Jolley Trolley has been shuttling visitors up and down the beach since 1982, and it is still one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to traverse the area. For as little as $2 you can get from Sand Key to Island Estates and all points in between, plus there are daily and weekly passes available.
  4. Boat – being surrounded by water on all sides makes travelling by boat a no-brainer, and there is no shortage of options to choose from. Fishing charters, dinner cruises, dolphin tours and the ever-popular Sea Screamer and Pirate Ship are all viable and exciting ways to experience the beach area from the water.
  5. Segways – if you enjoy the open-air experience of biking but prefer not to pedal, then perhaps a Segway is the right method of transportation for you. Many places rent the motorized people movers, but if you visit Fun In The Sun Rentals at Shepherds, you can choose between a regular bike, a motorized  or “electronic” cycle, or a Segway.
