Frito The Seahorse Gets New Lease On Life

Even the tiniest marine critter deserves a second chance.

CLEARWATER, FL -- Even the tiniest marine critter deserves a second chance.

That's the philosophy of the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, which is allowing the public to view its latest rescue via live webcam.

On Sunday, June 10, a resident and her two daughters came across this tiny seahorse entangled in fishing line while snorkeling off Redington Shores.

The line was wrapped around the seahorse's neck several times so the resident carefully untangled the tiny creature and placed it in a water bottle filled with ocean water. The family, which has been visiting the aquarium for years, promptly turned the seahorse over to CMA's rescue team.

Named Frito, the seahorse is now recuperating from its brush with death and will hopefully be released when it is rehabilitated.
