Gator Takes Bite Out Of Clearwater Man At Cliff Stephens Park

Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue were called to Cliff Stephens Park after a man was bitten by a gator.

CLEARWATER, FL -- Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue were called to Cliff Stephens Park, 600 Fairwood Ave., around 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, after a 35-year-old man was bitten by an alligator.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials said Richard Peel was retrieving a disc from a pond in the park during a game of disc golf when the alligator grabbed him. Peel was transported to Mease Countryside Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Licensed state trappers removed the alligator, estimated to be about 11 feet long, from the pond, along with another gator. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission is handling the investigation.
