Gonzalez Hits 3-Run Walk-Off For Threshers

As the D-Jays were about to celebrate their four game sweep of the Threshers, recent call-up Gustavo Gonzalez came to the plate and hit a two out, three-run walk-off homer over the leftfield fence.

This made the final score 5-4 on Sunday (Sept. 4) and completed the Threshers 2011 season.

The 20 year old shortstop was playing in just his third game in the Florida State League after spending the entire summer with the Gulf Coast Phillies.

In 26 games with the GC Phillies he hit one homer and only one other extra base hit.

The young Venezuelan was replacing Troy Hanzawa who was promoted to Double A Reading last week.

Julio Rodriguez started for the Threshers looking for win number 17, tops in the FSL, but left the game in the fifth with the scored tied at two.

Need to Know: A crowd of 2,200 were on hand for the last game of the year and improved the record breaking attendance for 2011 to 174,000 at Bright House Field.

With the victory on Sunday, Clearwater finished 2011 with a 75-63 record, good for third amongst all of FSL teams, trailing only Dunedin and Daytona.
