Gov. Rick Scott Honors Spring Training Baseball Sites, Including Bright House Field
Major League Baseball's spring training, which the Philadelphia Phillies call Clearwater their Florida home each year, is a major boost to the local economy.
In a release honoring the Florida cities, including Clearwater, that host Major League Baseball spring training sites, Gov. Rick Scott emphasized the economic impact baseball has on the Sunshine State.
Locally, that's the Philadelphia Phillies which call Clearwater home each spring.
In 2009, a study conducted by Bonn Marketing Research Group of Tallahassee concluded that spring training baseball brought an influx of some $753 million into the Florida economy.

“Florida’s great weather and sporting events like spring training continue to draw people to our state,” Scott said, “We are grateful to all of the visitors and businesses that made Spring Training a success and look forward to another exciting season of baseball.”
The Phillies drew 153,493 fans through 16 games at , for an average of 9,593 fans per game. The largest attendance came on March 19 when 10,853 came out as the Phillies played the Tigers.
