Hooters Celebrates 35th Anniversary At Power Boat Races

The restaurant chain that began in Clearwater is celebrating its 35th anniversary Sept. 27 to Sept. 30.

CLEARWATER, FL – The restaurant chain that began in Clearwater is celebrating its 35th anniversary with events starting Thursday and continuing through Sunday.

Hooters is the sponsor of the Hooters Clearwater Super Boat National Championship taking place this weekend in Clearwater and there will be several celebrations in conjunction with the boat races including a celebration on Clearwater Beach Saturday, featuring a free concert with The Romantics.

The Romantics, known for their '80s hit, “What I Like About You,” will perform at Pier 60 Park from 7:30 to 9 p.m. After the concert, stay for a fireworks display courtesy of Hooters.

The 2019 Hooters Calendar Girls will be introduced at the concert and there will be an autograph signing with this year’s Cover Girl, Centerfold and 12 of the Feature Girls.

In addition to the autographs at the concert, there will be a calendar signing on Saturday, Sept. 29 at noon at the Original Hooters, 2800 Gulf to Bay Blvd. in Clearwater. The Sept. 29 Hooters Calendar signing is also open to the public.

With every calendar sold, $1 goes to breast cancer research. Hooters has raised more than $ 5.3 million over the years to support the fight against breast cancer, much of it through the Kelly Jo Dowd Breast Cancer Research Fund benefiting the V Foundation for Cancer Foundation Research. Local calendar sales in the Clearwater and Tampa Bay area benefit the Moffitt Cancer Center.

“We are very excited to celebrate our 35-year anniversary with the Clearwater community,” said Denise Williams, chief marketing officer of Hooters Management Corp.

As part of the iconic brand’s 35-year anniversary celebration on Saturday, Sept. 29, every Hooters across the country is inviting the more than 300,000 Hooters Girl alumni in for a free meal as a thank you.

The first Hooters opened in Clearwater on Oct. 4, 1983. Lynne Austin, the first Hooters Girl will be at the celebration events.

In conjunction with the anniversary events, the 2019 Hooters Calendar will be revealed at the Original Hooters on Thursday.

Hooters Management Corp. owns and operates 25 Hooters restaurants in Tampa Bay, Chicago and Manhattan.
