Jonathan Singleton Clubs The Cubs

The Threshers open the second half of the FSL with a 6-5 win over the Daytona Cubs.

The Clearwater Threshers improved to 10 games over .500 with a 6-5 victory over the Daytona Cubs on Thursday.

The kid with the big smile took over for the third night in a row. First baseman Jonathan Singleton hit his fifth and sixth homers of the season and third in three days. The 19-year-old would also double, walk and score three times. 

A few days off at the All-Star break has changed this possible future major leaguer around. Since the break, he has gone 8-14 and hit three home runs. In the eight hits are two doubles and eight RBIs. As impressive in the stretch are four walks and no strikeouts.

Jonathan Pettibone picked up his seventh win of the season, working seven complete innings. In the most recent three-game sweep of the Threshers, the Cubs' middle of the order did all of the damage. On Thursday, Pettibone kept them at bay, but the bottom of the order touched him for five hits and three RBIs. 

On deck: The Threshers and Cubs return to action Friday at Bright House Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Need to Know: The GC Phillies improved to 3-1 on the season with an 8-7 victory over the GC Braves Thursday afternoon. Outfielder Jorge Castillo21, hit a three-run homer. Former Threshers reliever Derrick Loop has struggled in his two appearances with AA Reading. Signed as a minor league free agent by the Phillies in 2010, Loop has given up two runs on three hits and four walks.
