Kids Drawing Contest Promotes Drug-Free Lifestyle
Two nonprofits join together to educate Tampa Bay area youth about harmful drugs and how to live drug-free.

On November 24, 2019, The Way to Happiness (TWTH) Association of Tampa Bay and the Foundation for a Drug-Free World (FDFW) Florida chapter held the first ever Tampa Bay Kids Drawing Contest on Fort Harrison Avenue to educate and promote a drug-free lifestyle to children.
Starting in the FDFW center—an international nonprofit anti-drug education organization—over two dozen children and parents were given a presentation on what a drug is and the negative effects that it can have on someone’s body. Following the presentation all kids were encouraged to sign the pledge to live drug-free.
Moving next door, to the TWTH Association of Tampa Bay’s center, attendees were introduced to The Way to Happiness, a non-religious moral code based wholly on common sense. Attendees were introduced to one of the 21 precepts of The Way to Happiness: Don’t Take Harmful Drugs, as part of the drawing contest.

Kids as young as 3 and as old as 11 years old drew their ideas on how to be drug-free from what they learned about the harmful effects that drugs have on the body. Winners of their respective age group won a blue ribbon for first place.
“We thought the drawing contest would be a fun way to teach this precept to young children,” said Iván Batalla, the deputy executive director of TWTH Association of Tampa Bay. “Partnering with the Foundation for a Drug-Free World to help educate the kids seemed to be a perfect fit.”
