Library's Discovery Zone Features High-Tech Learning Tools

The North Greenwood Library in Clearwater will celebrate the installation of the library's new Discovery Zone area Friday, April 6 at 4 p.m.

CLEARWATER, FL -- The North Greenwood Library, 905 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., in Clearwater will celebrate the installation of the library’s new Discovery Zone area Friday, April 6 at 4 p.m.

The Discovery Zone is a redesigned area to enhance the cognitive abilities of youth ages 17 and under with various reading resources and interactive play areas. The Discovery Zone also includes other technical devices for adults.

The public is invited to join the Friends of the Clearwater Library President Rita Garvey and the North Greenwood Library branch manager Christa Smith for a tour of the newly updated space. After the tour, there will be music by the Roger Harrison Jazz Ensemble and light refreshments.

The Discovery Zone includes a revitalized book collection, LEGO tables, coloring station, rocking chair, teen section with mobile charging stations and a video gaming console.

Youth can also checkout Playaway Launchpads, tablets pre-loaded with high-quality, ad-free apps that are both fun and educational and don’t require WiFi connectivity.

Highlights of the renovated space include a new high-tech scanner, which will allow patrons to save their treasured photos to a flash drive.

Patrons will also have the ability to record their stories or family’s history in their own voice using the library’s hand-held microphone. Register to use the scanner Mondays through Fridays during library hours.
