Man Found Critically Injured In Intersection Dies, Now Identified

The man found lying in the intersection of Gulf to Bay Boulevard and Old Coachman Road, critically injured, has died.

CLEARWATER, FL — The man found critically injured lying in the intersection of Gulf to Bay Boulevard at Old Coachman Road has died of his injuries. He has been identified as James Lamar Smith, 49.

Smith was discovered Thursday at 5:30 a.m. He was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital, then later transferred to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa for treatment where he died of his injuries on Saturday.

Clearwater Police said his injuries are consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
