Man Dies After Jumping Off Bridge On A Dare

Clearwater Police have said the man whose body was found Thursday is the same one who reportedly jumped from the Memorial Causeway bridge.

CLEARWATER, FL — The body of a 48-year-old man was found Thursday afternoon about 2 miles west of Clearwater Beach in the Gulf of Mexico. A fisherman made the discovery, according to the Clearwater Police Department.

An investigation into the find revealed that the man found is the same one whose friend reported he had jumped off the Memorial Causeway bridge on a dare early Thursday morning, the agency wrote in an email to media.

Police say they were tipped off about the possible jumper by the man's friend. The friend told police the two were walking along the bridge just after midnight when they began daring each other to jump. The man reportedly acted on the dare, the email said.
