Man Mistaking Car For Uber Ride Hit Over Head With Concrete Chunk

Police say a 27-year-old man was arrested after being accused of assaulting another man for mistaking his girlfriend's car for an Uber ride.

CLEARWATER, FL — Clearwater police say a 27-year-old man was arrested after being accused of hitting another man over the head with a piece of concrete for mistaking his girlfriend's car for an Uber ride.

Police said Donnell Latavius Irby became angry when he saw a man try to get into his girlfriend's car and struck him with the piece of concrete. While the victim was still dazed from the attack, police said Irby stole his backpack.

Irby was pulled over on Poinsettia Avenue in Clearwater and police said he had bloodshot eyes and the car smelled of marijuana and alcohol.

Police said Irby refused a breath test and did not have a valid driver’s license. A search of his car turned up a bag with 1 gram of crack cocaine.

When interviewed by police, Irby admitted to attacking the man who was trying to open the car door because he thought it was his Uber ride.

Irby was charged with robbery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
