Four Brevard County pitchers shut-out the Threshers 8-0 on Friday (July 1).
The game was far closer than the score indicated as the Manatees added six runs in the eighth and ninth innings.
It was a pitchers duel for the first seven innings between the Manatees Tyler Thornburg and the Threshers Jarred Cosart. Thornburg was making only his second start in High A (Florida State League) after posting 1.57 ERA with a 7-0 record for the Brewers Low A team in the Midwest League (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers). The 22 year old Thornburg allowed only one hit over six complete innings while striking out ten Thresher batters. The Houston, Texan native limited the Tampa Yankees to one run on two hits in his first start.
