Mattair Homers Threshers To Victory

Third baseman Travis Mattair's two homers propelled the Threshers to their sixth consecutive win on Tuesday (July 26), defeating the Marauders 10-2.

The 22 year old from Kennewick, WA hit a two-run homer in the second and a solo shot in the eighth, his fifth of the season.

Mattair started the season as the every day third baseman but a stint on the disabled list and the solid play of his replacement Jeremy Barnes made his return very difficult. Finally an assignment in Lakewood (Low A) to get his swing back has returned him to the form he displayed early in the 2011 campaign.

Shortstop Troy Hanzawa (3), second baseman Cesar Hernandez (4) and first basemen Jonathan Singleton (9) all hit homers in the lopsided victory.

Julio Rodriguez picked up his league leading thirteenth win on the season, working five innnings giving up one earned run.

On deck: The Threshers will try for seven in a row Wednesday (July 27) against the Marauders at . First pitch is scheduled for noon.

Need to Know: Jiwan James lead off the Threshers first inning with a single and scored. This marks the fifth game in a row he has opened the first inning with a base hit.

The GC Phillies were shut down by 19 year old Tiger pitcher Jack Duffey. The Tigers chose Duffey in the 28th round of the 2010 Firt-Year Player Draft. On Tuesday he limited the Phillies to one hit over seven complete innings.

After signing in 2010 from The Heritage School in Franklin, GA he did not allow a run in twelve innings with the GC Tigers.
