May And James Lead Threshers To Sweep

Threshers complete the four game sweep over the Miracle with a 6-1 victory.

The Threshers completed their four game sweep of the road weary Ft. Myers Miracle on Sunday (July 24), winning 6-1.

The Threshers  scored in the first inning of every game. Lead off batter Jiwan James went 4-5 in the first innings of the four game series, including a double and single in game two.

On Sunday the speedy centerfielder tripled and scored in the first. He then followed a double by Troy Hanzawa in the fifth with his own double, this turned out to be the winning run. The Threshers put the game away in the seventh, scoring four times with James two out double leading the charge.

Trevor May was superb in his six innings of work. The 6'5" right-hander allowed just five hits and one run while striking out 11.

May is a strike out master, with a moving 93 MPH fastball and then a 78 MPH breaking ball that causes batters a great deal of difficulty.

On Deck: Clearwater (14-16) opens a four game series on Monday (July 25), hosting the Bradenton Marauders (Pirates). First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at . Jonathan Pettibone is the probable starter for the Threshers.

Need to Know: Interesting that Joe Savery is back pitching again. Savery lead the Florida State League in hitting back on May 7 with a .413 batting average.

He then was promoted to Reading AA and then promoted to Lehigh Valley AAA. During this time he has reentered the pitching fraternity.

The Phillies have something unique to professional baseball a pitcher/hitter, something more common in high school and college.

The Ft. Myers starting pitcher Sunday Tom Stuifbergen is a native of Haalen, Netherlands where he played his little league ball.
