National Night Out Clearwater Style

Clearwater area residents who want to take a stand against crime are invited to attend the city’s National Night Out observance Tuesday, Oct. 6.

The festivities take place from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Target parking lot at the Clearwater Mall, 2747 Gulf to Bay Blvd.

National Night Out is designed as a show of unity between law enforcement and residents in the battle against crime. It provides residents a chance to meet local officers while enabling them to see some of the tools used on the job.

The Clearwater Police Department intends to have its mounted unit and K9s at the mall during the event. In addition, the SWAT team, patrol cars, hostage negotiators, forensics experts and others will also be on hand.

Bayflite is also expected to make a landing while Clearwater Fire & Rescue should be well-represented, too. AmeriCorps will give out free bicycle helmets to kids. About two dozen local restaurants are pitching in to provide free food and drink.
