Officer of the Year: William Nahorodny
Officer William Nahorodny was awarded Clearwater Police's top honor at a ceremony Wednesday.

Officer William Nahorodny, who kicked in doors to save residents from an apartment fire in November, was honored as Officer of the Year during a ceremony Wednesday.
In the past, Nahorodny saved a man from jumping off the Courtney Campbell Causeway bridge.
Nahorodny was near the end of his shift at 4 a.m. when a call came in that the Lebeau Apartments was on fire Nov. 6. The apartment was fully engulfed by the time Nahordny arrived. Still, he kicked in doors and helped residents to safety.

For his efforts Nahorodny was honored at the the 35th annual Joseph F. Cornelius Family Foundation's Outstanding Police Officer of the Year awards. It's Clearwater Police's highest honor.
Lt. Mark Smyth was also recognized for his help with the Susan G. Komen, Muscular Dystrophy Association and Joshua House (a haven for abused, abandoned and neglected children events). He also helps the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, Girl Scouts of America and at his church and children's school.

Det. Chris Householder was recognized for his volunteer efforts as Athletic Director for the Tampa Bay Youth Football League, Trinity Mustangs Football Team and the South Pasco Steelers.
