No. 2 St. John's 6, No. 3 Pittsburgh 4

St. John's advanced to the tournament semifinals thanks in large part to the play of shortstop Joe Panik, who did a little bit of everything. Panik had a pair of hits, scored two runs and stole two bases.

Panik gave the Red Storm breathing room when he doubled with two outs in the sixth and later scored on an RBI-single for a 4-2 St. John's lead.

Red Storm pitcher John Hagen was dominant. He struck out nine without giving up a walk and allowed two hits through seven innings of work.

No. 8 Notre Dame 1, No. 4 West Virginia 0

Notre Dame starter Cole Johnson and reliever Dan Slania helped the Fighting Irish advance and eliminate West Virginia from the tournament with strong performances.

Johnson allowed just three hits through eight innings while Slania gave up just one hit in an inning of relief.

The Mountaineers defense surrendered the lone run of the game in the second. Adam Norton reached on an infield hit and later scored on a throwing error that should have been the third out of the inning.

No. 5 Seton Hall 4, No. 1 Connecticut 3

Seton Hall rallied thanks to Connecticut's pitching meltdown in the bottom of the 12th inning Thursday night.

With the bases loaded, Sean Gusrang was hit by a pitch and Dale Anderson, with the count 0-2, watched four straight balls sail past him for the game-winner.

That wasn't the first rally of the evening for the Pirates. Seton Hall scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at 2-2.
