CLEARWATER, FL — Clearwater Fire & Rescue crew members might be best known for rushing to accident scenes and into burning buildings to help people caught in jams, but they’re not above saving an occasional duckling or two.
Firefighters proved that point recently when they jumped into action to reunite a mother duck and her ducklings. It seems a few of the critters managed to get themselves caught in a storm drain and required a hand to get out.
“Just another example of our crews going above and beyond to serve the residents of the city — whether feathered or human,” the agency wrote in its Facebook page Monday.

Clearwater Police also recently demonstrated their oath to protect and serve extends to feathered friends. Two officers were credited with saving a cormorant that was found injured near Pier 60.
Firefighters in Lake County also made headlines recently by saving a tiny bear cub from a wildfire. The little bear, since named Smokey Jr., reportedly suffered minor burns, but is expected to recover.
