Pickup Truck Crashes Into Retention Pond Near Pinellas Courthouse

CLEARWATER, FL — The driver of a pickup truck escaped injury Wednesday afternoon after crashing into a retention pond outside the Pinellas County Courthouse.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 64-year-old Largo man was pulling into a parking spot when his boot become entangled in the gas pedal.

The truck accelerated, went over a raised concrete curb, hit the fence surrounding the pond and crashed into the pond, where it became fully submerged.

The driver was able to escape the truck with the help of sheriff's deputies who were nearby when the crash occurred.
