PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — The Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners on Thursday extended its State of Local Emergency declaration for COVID-19 through Sept. 4. The extension keeps in force a County ordinance requiring face coverings and social distancing at indoor public areas.

Medical experts expressed continued concern for public health despite observed decreases in positive test results since the Commission first put the ordinance into effect on June 23. Commissioners also weighed in public testimony and concerns about a possible spike in new cases correlating to the reopening of Pinellas County schools this week.
