Pinellas Cold Weather Shelters Activated for Friday's Chill

Forecasters are anticipating rather brisk conditions.

As a cold front moves through the area, Pinellas County officials are taking no chances.

They’ve announced that cold weather shelters throughout the county will open Friday evening for use by those in need. Shelters open between 6 and 6:30 p.m., depending on the exact location, and will close around 6 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14.

The National Weather Service is anticipating an overnight low of about 42 Friday with wind chill bringing the feels-like temperature into the near freezing range.

Pinellas shelters offer guests a hot meal and a warm place to stay, along with breakfast the following morning, the county noted in an email to media.

Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church

Note: Transportation to and from this shelter and downtown St. Petersburg will be provided by Boley, Inc. Scheduled pick-ups from Williams Park and St. Vincent de Paul begin between 5 and 5:30 p.m.
