Pinellas Readies Cold Weather Shelters for Impending Chill

As another cold front makes its way through the Tampa Bay area, Pinellas County officials are working to make sure folks without heat have warm places to stay.

The county has announced that its cold weather shelters will open both Wednesday and Thursday nights for those in need. Shelters open between 6 and 6:30 p.m. and typically close the following morning at 6.

The National Weather Service is predicting two nights of rather cold weather starting overnight Wednesday when temperatures are anticipated to drop into the 40s. The overnight temperatures on Thursday will fall into the upper 30s. Wind chill could bring the feels-like temperatures down into the freezing range.

The following shelters will open for adult men and women both nights:

Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church

Boys & Girls Club of the Suncoast in Pinellas Park

Note: Transportation to and from this shelter and downtown St. Petersburg will be provided by Boley, Inc. Scheduled pick-ups from Williams Park and St. Vincent de Paul begin between 5 and 5:30 p.m.

Families with children will be placed in motels or family shelters. Arrangements must be made no later than 7 p.m. For more information on family shelters, call 211.
