Rain Predictions Aren't Dampening Spirits At Chalk Art Fest

CLEARWATER, FL — The more than 40 artists participating in the eighth annual Clearwater Beach Chalk Festival are busy creating sidewalk masterpieces despite storm forecasts this weekend.
The festival, hosted by the Clearwater Beach Chamber of Commerce, got underway Friday morning when the chalk artists began creating their larger-than-life canvases along the sidewalks in Clearwater Beach.
Visitors are invited to watch the art in progress and then vote for their favorite creation.

With a cyclone brewing in the Gulf of Mexico, the chamber’s Chalk Art Festival Committee is prepared to cover the artworks in plastic sheeting to protect them from the strong thunderstorms predicted for Friday night and Saturday morning.

The free festival will run Friday until 6 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The winner of the People's Choice Award will be announced Sunday at noon.
This family-friendly festival also includes a kids' zone, arts and crafts vendors and live music.
