Clearwater residents are encouraged to transform the dull, gray traffic signal boxes around the city into works of art.

CLEARWATER, FL — Clearwater residents are encouraged to participate in a program that will transform the dull, gray traffic signal boxes around the city into works of art.

For the past several years, the Clearwater Arts Alliance has contracted with local artists to create artwork for the city's traffic signal boxes.

Now the city is opening up the program to residents and neighborhoods.

The program gives neighbors a chance to work together on a fun, artistic project. Neighborhoods are encouraged to select a theme for the artwork that is meaningful to residents and will serve as a source of neighborhood pride.

The neighbors can paint the signal boxes themselves or contract with an artist to paint a design that they've created.
