Rodriguez One Hits Manatees But Loses 1-0

Threshers gain a half game on Dunedin who were swept in Lakeland.

Clearwater and Brevard County  sat through a two hour rain delay before the Manatees edged the Threshers 1-0 on Tuesday (Aug. 30).

The Threshers Julio Rodriguez was unable to pick up his 17th victory of the season although he allowed just one hit while striking out ten Manatees in six complete innings.

The seven inning game was scheduled to be the first of a doubleheader but weather postponed the second game until Wednesday.

With Rodriguez lifted from the game the Manatees loaded the bases and shortstop Alan Schoenberger misplayed a ground ball allowing the winning run to cross home plate.

The Threshers managed just three singles off a committee of Brevard County relievers.

On Deck: The two teams will try to play a doubleheader today before the Threshers travel to Dunedin for the beginning of a split four game series to end the season.

Dunedin will host games one through three and the two teams will finish off the 2011 campaign at on Sunday afternoon.

Need to Know: The Lakeland Flying Tigers defeated the Dunedin Blue Jays twice on Tuesday enabling the Threshers to move with one game of first in the North Division of the Florida State League.

Tyler Cloyd continues to have a spectacular year in Double A Reading, posting a 2.88 ERA in 16 starts, striking out 94 batters compared to issuing only 14 walks.

For his efforts the former 2011 Thresher was selected by the Phillies organization to play in the prestigious Arizona Fall League.
