Sebastian Valle Hits Threshers To Victory

The Clearwater Threshers backed by battery mates Julio Rodriguez and Sebastian Valle edged the Daytona Cubs on Saturday (August 6) 5-4.

The Threshers outstanding young catcher, Valle, has all the tools to make it to the Major Leagues one day and they were on full display Saturday evening.

After the Cubs scored three in the top of the fifth, the 21 year old put Clearwater back on top with a two out RBI double. His two out RBI single in the seventh would turn out to be the eventual winning run.

The 6'1" native of Los Mochis, Mexico is certainly the catcher in waiting for the Phillies when Carlo Ruiz is no longer behind the plate.

As the catcher for a group of very good young arms for the Threshers it is concievable to see them all together as Phillies as early as 2014. 

Julio Rodriguez is one of those young arms and he picked up win number 15 last night. The 20 year old gave up only two hits on the night through five innings but one was a three-run homer to the Cubs second baseman Jake Opitz. 

On Deck: The Threshers and Cubs play game two of their three game series at Bright House Field on Sunday (August 7). First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Need to Know: The Tampa Yankees defeated the Dunedin Blue Jays 8-4 on Saturday to take sole possession of first place in the North Division of the Florida State League.

Clearwater and Dunedin are tied for second both one game behind.

The Gulf Coast Phillies lost their fouth in a row and seven of their last eight. Saturday they were defeated by the GC Tigers 9-1.

First basemen Mike Marshall from Lubbock Christian University in Texas had a pair of sinlges and a walk in a losing cause.
