Shaq a Slam Dunk for Florida Law Enforcement?

The former NBA star hopes to become a reservist in South Florida.

At 7-foot-1, former basketball pro Shaquille O’Neal is an opposing figure to say the least. But, does he have what it takes to be a law enforcement officer?

That’s what officials in the Miami-Dade area’s city of Doral are trying to find out. O’Neal, 42, has applied to become a reserve law enforcement officer with the Doral Police Department, the Miami Herald is reporting.

While flattered with his application, the city does intend to make O’Neal jump through the usual hoops for the post. He has to undergo the same physical and psychological evaluations as other police candidates and obtain certification from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Orlando Weekly said.

Shaq, who played for both the Miami Heat and the Orlando Magic, during his career, has dabbled in law enforcement in the past. He served as a reservist for the Miami Beach Police Department for a time and also lent a hand to the Los Angeles Port Police.

It is unclear when Shaq will know if he can don a Doral Police Department uniform.
