CLEARWATER, FL — Clearwater police are continuing their search for the driver of an SUV who struck and killed a skateboarder Thursday morning.
Police said they are searching for Sergio Mendoza-Mesquite, 32. Police said he was the driver of the Toyota Sienna van that struck a man and then left the scene.

According to police, just before 2 a.m., 26-year-old Tyler Deremo of Largo, the lead singer of a Tampa Bay area band called Wicked Evil Grin, was riding a skateboard in the eastbound lanes of Gulf to Bay Boulevard near Keene Road when he was struck by a 2010 Toyota Sienna traveling east.

Witnesses told police that the driver of the Toyota Sienna never hit the brakes and immediately took off after the crash, leaving Deremo dying in the street.
Police found the damaged Toyota Sienna abandoned about three miles away in the 2100 block of Cleveland Street.

Deremo was rushed to Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater where he died.
