Threshers Bats Silent For Second Night In A Row

Clearwater falls to second place after a narrow loss to Daytona, 2-1.

For the second night in a row the Clearwater Threshers were unable to sustain any offense in losing 2-1 to the Daytona Cubs.

In Tampa on Thursday, Clearwater managed only five hits in a 5-0 shut-out. Friday, (Aug. 12) Daytona pitchers limited them to a run on just four hits.

Clemson alum, Casey Harman, 22, stymied the Threshers over six innings on an earned run.

The only run the Threshers managed on the evening was a solo homer by Cyle Hankerd. The free agent signing picked up his third homerun in just ten games in the Florida State League.

The Threshers wasted another excellent start, this time by 15 game winner Julio Rodriguez. The twenty-year old, right-hander allowed only two runs over five innings while striking out seven.

On Deck: Daytona will host the Threshers for game two of the series on Saturday (Aug. 13).

Need to Know: New York Yankees All-Star third baseman Alex Rodriguez, rehabbing his knee surgery, went 2-3 with the Tampa Yankees in Dunedin.

A-Rod, as he is affectionately known, homered in his first at bat and doubled in his second before striking out in his third at bat.

The D-Jays defeated the Yankees 6-4 to take over sole possession of first place, a game ahead of Clearwater and Tampa.

First baseman Mike Marshall lead the Gulf Coast Phillies to an 11-6 victory over the Gulf Coast Pirates on Friday. Marshall knocked out three doubles as the Phillies collected 12 hits in the win.
