Threshers Return Home With Split In Palm Beach

Clearwater and Tampa open a key three game series, starting Tuesday.

The Threshers dropped a 7-3 contest to the Cardinals on Monday (August 1) evening their record in the second half of the Florida State League.

Now that the one and two prospects in the Phillies organization have been traded, pitcher Brody Colvin becomes the guy. On Monday he looked anything but that as the Cardinals jumped on him for five earned runs in five complete innings.

Colvin's opponent on the hill for the Cardinals was their flame throwing 19 year old Carlos Martinez. Martinez was named the St. Louis Cardinals third best prospect in 2011 by Baseball America. The Threshers were able to score three times of him in six innings while striking out eight times.

On Deck: The Threshers return home Tuesday (August 2) for an all important three game series with division leading Tampa Yankees. First pitch at Bright House Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Threshers just recalled pitcher David Buchanan from Lakewood (Low A) and it is possible that he could be slotted in the departed Jarred Cosart's spot in the rotation on Tuesday.
