Threshers Shut Out By Yankees

Clearwater bats are held to six hits in a 7-0 loss to the Yankees.

The Threshers were defeated by the Tampa Yankees on Friday (August 5) 7-0. The loss marked only the third defeat in their past 15 home games.

The game was scoreless until the sixth when the Yankees scored a lone run but they broke it open with four in the seventh and another two in the ninth.

Jonathan Pettibone pounding the strike zone with his 93-94 MPH fastball, lasted 6.2 innings giving up five runs on eight hits while striking out seven.

The Threshers' bats managed only six hits off three Yankee pitchers. 

Third baseman Travis Mattair and first baseman Darin Ruf each had a pair of hits in the losing cause.

On Deck: The Threshers start a three game series with the first half winner of the North Division, the Daytona Cubs. The Cubs (20-20) are contending again in the second half.

The Yankees remain in first, one game ahead of Clearwater.

Need to Know: Jonathan Singleton begins his Houston Astros career in his home state of California for the Lancaster JetHawks of the Advanced A California League. In five games the 19 year old is batting .350 with a homerun and three doubles.

A rarity occurred in the GC Phillies 6-0 defeat at the hands of the GC Tigers Friday. Tigers starter Brenny Paulino pitched a complete game, allowing only three hits and striking out six in the nine inning affair.

It was the Phillies six loss in their past seven games.
