Threshers Start Homestand with Charlotte Stone Crabs

The Clearwater Threshers are in the midst of a scoring slump.

Finishing up a series against the Bradenton Marauders where they scored a total of seven runs in four games. The Threshers split the series in Bradenton closing with a 3-1 victory Tuesday.

The two victories  were supported by a sensational one hitter from starter Jarred Cosart and a strong four hit performance by starter Trevor May. Justin Friend came on to save both games improving his league lead in that department to 15.

Cosart the native of League City, Texas, was drafted in the 38th round in 2008. The 20 year old had full intentions of playing for University of Missouri until the last minute signing. Known more for his batting stats in high school, where he hit .506 his senior year, Cosart's arm is what attracted the Phillie brass.

Bradenton sent only 28 men to the plate on Sunday against Cosart and Friend. The perfect game ended with a single up the middle to lead off the seventh against Cosart.

Chase Utley the Phillies second basemen played in Sunday and Monday's games. He was hitless Sunday with two strikeouts. Monday he delivered the only run with an RBI single in the first. He proceeded to strikeout and fly out twice in his remaining at bats.

The Threshers are back at Brighthouse Field today to host the Charlotte Stone Crabs (Rays). Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Hak-Ju Lee, is the prospect shortstop the Rays got in the Matt Garza trade with the Cubs. Lee is currently batting .383.
