Threshers's Playoff Hopes Dashed In Doubleheader Sweep

The Clearwater Threshers were defeated by the Dunedin Blue Jays 4-1 and 4-2 on Friday (Sept. 2) ending any chances the Threshers had to advance to the Florida State League playoffs.

Unfortunately for the Threshers, David Buchanan had his weakest start since arriving in Clearwater in August. The 22 year old Georgia State alum was touched for four runs on eight hits in just three complete innings.

In the night cap Trevor May allowed only two hits, however all four of the runs he allowed were batters who had reached base on walks.

Brandon Tripp and Darin Ruf each hit a pair of doubles to lead the Threshers offensive attack.

On Deck: The Threshers and D-Jays resume their split series with game three being played at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium before the teams shift to  in Clearwater for a 1 pm. start on Sunday.

Need to Know: The Florida State League announced its 2011 All-Star team comprising of two Threshers pitchers and two positional players.

Pitchers Julio Rodriguez and Trevor May, first baseman Darin Ruf, and catcher Sebastian Valle were honored with selections. 

Rodriguez leads the league with 16 wins while May leads the league with 203 strikeouts and second in all of Minor League Baseball.

Darin Ruf received strong consideration for player of the year honors and Sebastian Valle is batting .284 while catching arguably the best starting pitching in the FSL.
