Trevor May Fans 10 For First Place Threshers

The Clearwater Threshers claimed a share of first place in the North Division of the Florida State League with an 8-4 victory over the Tampa Yankees on Thursday (August 4).

Clearwater's single season holder for the most strikeouts, Trevor May, added 10 more to his total in just five innings of work Thursday. 

The newest members of the Threshers each homered for the second consecutive night. Brandon Tripp hit a pair of solo shots (2,3) and Cyle Hankred hit his second. The veteran players were free agent signings, added to the roster to bolster an outfield that was decimated by injuries.

All-Star catcher Sebastian Valle put the game away with a 2-run homer in the eighth, his fifth of the year.

First basemen Darin Ruf hit his 35th and 36th doubles of the year. He leads the FSL in that category by a wide margin.

On Deck: Clearwater and Tampa complete their three game series on Friday, first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 at . Starter Jonathan Pettibone will bring his 2.89 ERA to the hill, looking for his ninth victory.

Need to Know: Recently traded Jarred Cosart made his first start in the Double A Texas League for the Corpus Christi Hooks. The 21 year old was brilliant, allowing only two hits in six scoreless innings while striking out four and not issuing a walk.

The GC Phillies were defeated by the GC Blue Jays for the second day in a row, Thursdays final score was 4-3.

Blue Jays pitching limited the Phillies to just three hits. Brian Pointer had one of the hits, a run scoring triple.
