Video: Motorist Runs Same Red Light Twice In Minutes
The Clearwater Police Department is calling it a BOGO special, but doesn't mean the driver will get a discount.
CLEARWATER, FL — There’s nothing out of the ordinary about a traffic camera capturing a vehicle blowing through a red light at an intersection. A camera catching the same vehicle running the exact same light twice within minutes, however, is a little more unusual.
That’s what Clearwater Police say unfolded on April 23. A motorist approached the intersection of Gulf To Bay and Belcher heading eastbound first. A red light camera at the intersection captured to vehicle blowing the light.
Footage from the westbound direction, shot eight minutes later, shows the same car speeding through another solid red light.

“We might refer to this one as the BOGO special,” the department’s Facebook page noted of the incident. “Two citations for one driver within a matter of minutes.”
While police joked about the BOGO special, department spokesman Rob Shaw said the agency at this time has no intention of offering a two-for-one discount on the citations. The tickets cost $158 each.

Just how soon the motorist in question will get those tickets in the mail remains unclear.
The city of Clearwater has three traffic safety camera locations. The cameras are located on eastbound Gulf to Bay at Belcher, westbound Gulf to Bay at Belcher and eastbound Chestnut Street at Fort Harrison Avenue, according to the city’s website.
Motorists who receive citations through the red light camera program do not receive points on their license. The ticket is a civil infraction that isn’t reported to the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles, according to the city. Red light runners have 60 days to pay their fines.
