Police Identify Worker Crushed In Construction Accident

CLEARWATER, FL — A worker died after being crushed while working in a trench in the 1400 block of Jeffords Street.

Clearwater Fire and Rescue was called to the scene at about 1 p.m. Monday.

Police said Manolo Ruiz-Sanchez, 36, of Milwaukee Avenue in Dunedin was worked in a trench when a large steel plate used to stabilize the trench struck and crushed him.

The trench work is part of a city storm water project.

Keystone Excavators Inc. is the city's contractor for the project.
