Worker Dies After Steel Beam Falls At Pinellas County Business: Reports

CLEARWATER — A worker died Thursday morning after a large steel beam fell on him at a Clearwater steel company, multiple reports said.

The 911 call about the incident at Hammer Haag Steel, 12707 U.S. 19 North, came in just after 10 a.m., according to IONTB.com.

Multiple law enforcement and fire crews, including the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Pinellas Park police, Sunstar Paramedics, Largo Fire Rescue, Pinellas Park Fire Rescue and St. Petersburg Fire Rescue, quickly responded to the scene.

Deputies learned that a forklift holding the beam had collapsed on the man, who was standing near or underneath it, WTSP reported.

Fire rescue crews removed the beam and freed the man, who was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries, Tampa Bay 28 said.

The forklift’s driver was also brought to Northside Hospital after he had difficulty breathing, reports said.
