• Florida puts incident-prone rail crossings first under $356 million grant (railway.supply) — Cocoa is set to get a Brightline station and access road funded by a federal grant of up to $57.5 million, part of a larger $416 million rail safety package. Another grant will upgrade up to 910 rail crossings statewide, including many in Central Florida, aiming to cut crashes and improve safety on lines used by Brightline and Amtrak.
• WFIT Local & State News - October 7, 2026 PM (wfit.org) — Cocoa officials say a Brightline passenger rail station near SR 528 and Clearlake Road could open by 2030, backed by more than $56 million in state funding and projected to bring thousands of jobs and major economic activity. The state is also investing heavily in rail-crossing safety upgrades, while a new Gulf storm and NASA's evolving partnership with SpaceX round out a busy news day for Space Coast residents.
• Two children, man found dead in Cocoa home in possible murder-suicide, police say (wftv.com) — Police are investigating the deaths of two children and a man found inside a Cocoa home as a possible murder-suicide, but say there is no ongoing threat to the public. Neighbors described hearing loud blasts overnight and are stunned by the tragedy, while investigators work to confirm what happened and identify the victims. Residents can expect a continued police presence as the case unfolds.
