A 28-year-old man was charged with aggravated stalking and other offenses on Friday after he allegedly followed his ex-girlfriend to work.

CORAL GABLES, FL — A 28-year-old man was charged with aggravated stalking, resisting arrest and other offenses on Friday after a series of events that began when he allegedly followed his ex-girlfriend to work and took her phone away to prevent her from calling police. Carlos Tosco also is accused of struggling with officers and leading them on a manhunt. The incident took place during morning rush hour at about 7:35 a.m.
Police said Tosco showed up at his ex-girlfriend's home as she was leaving for work. He followed her to her office at 550 Biltmore Way and allegedly confronted her in a parking garage.
"As she attempted to contact the Coral Gables Police Department via 9-1-1, Tosco snatched the phone from the victim and ended the 9-1-1 call," explained Officer Kelly Denham of the Coral Gables Police Department. "Officers from the Coral Gables Police Department responded to the 9-1-1 hang-up call and eventually made contact with the victim. The subject was not on scene when the officers arrived."

Tosco allegedly returned while police were still on the scene.
"While investigating the aggravated stalking, Tosco returned to the scene and attempted to confront the victim again in the presence of the officers," Denham said. "As officers attempted to take him into custody, he struggled with both officers and then fled on foot to a commercial business under construction in the 400 Block of Valencia Avenue."

Police searched the area with K-9 units. Coral Gables police received assistance from Miami-Dade police, Miami-Dade School police and South Miami police. SWAT team members also participated in a search of the building.
"At approximately 1 pm, the subject was taken into custody without incident and charged," added Denham.
