Today's riddle: What do you call a paper airplane that can't fly? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Talk of the Town: October 2026 (coralgablesmagazine.com) — Coral Gables leaders just approved the long-debated Crystal Residence project, securing a 99-year rent-free home and new playground for Crystal Academy while adding 184 apartments near downtown. In the same roundup, you'll find updates on Bacardi's new Plaza Coral Gables offices, a pending city manager change, major arts accolades, and a notable burglary arrest tied to a local couple's home.
2. Hotel employee accused of swiping $7,800 worth of food from Biltmore (local10.com) — Coral Gables residents may notice extra attention around the Biltmore Hotel after police arrested an employee accused of stealing more than $7,800 in food, including hundreds of lobster tails and other items. Investigators say inventory logs and surveillance video pointed to the worker, who resigned before termination and is now being held on an immigration-related hold.
3. Spooky season comes to SoFlo with wands and witches at The Wharf and haunted cocktails at John Martin's (wsvn.com) — John Martin's Irish Pub on Miracle Mile in Coral Gables is turning into a full-on "Halloween Bar" all month, with themed rooms and spooky cocktails available through October 31. While Fort Lauderdale's Wharf hosts a Harry Potter–inspired weekend, Coral Gables residents can enjoy eerie décor, costumes, and seasonal drinks without leaving the neighborhood.
4. Miami Beach Fire Department to Host 39th Annual Children's Fire Safety Festival (communitynewspapers.com) — Coral Gables Fire Rescue will join other Miami-Dade agencies at the 39th Annual Children's Fire Safety Festival in Miami Beach from Oct. 13–15. Local first- through third-graders can learn hands-on skills like Stop, Drop and Roll, home fire prevention, and how to call 911, giving Coral Gables families a timely chance to reinforce safety lessons with their kids.
