Coral Gables Bank Robbed, Suspect Leaves 'Device' Behind

The suspect left behind a suspicious device at the Marquis Bank branch, prompting an evacuation.

CORAL GABLES, FL — A brazen thief demanded money from a Coral Gables bank on Friday before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash. As the suspect made his getaway, he left behind a suspicious device at the Marquis Bank branch at 355 Alhambra Circle. The incident occurred at 3:45 p.m.

"The robber left a device inside the bank prompting its evacuation," explained Special Agent Michael D. Leverock of the FBI and agency spokesman Jim Marshall. (Sign up for our free Daily Newsletters and Breaking News Alerts for the Coral Gables-Coconut Grove Patch.)

"The device was later removed and determined safe," they added. "The details of the device will not be released at this time."

No one was injured in the robbery. The FBI released a surveillance image of the bandit.
