Beginning this January, the Coral Gables Fire Department will be the first fire rescue agency in Miami-Dade County to launch telemedicine capability in their rescue units. Developed by the Gordon Center for Simulation and Innovation in Medical Education at the University of Miami, this innovative program will allow paramedics to consult directly to neurologists, or trauma surgeon when patients are experiencing life threatening emergencies via a secured video system.
This technology will enable emergency physicians, and interventionists from area hospitals like Baptist and the University of Miami, the ability to speak with and evaluate patients prior to arriving in the emergency room.
