Off-Duty Coral Gables Fire Lieutenant Shot
Xavier Jones was expected to be released from Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center on Monday.

MIAMI, FL — An off-duty lieutenant in the Coral Gables Fire Department was shot late Sunday night after leaving a home in Northwest Miami-Dade. Thirty-year-old Xavier Jones was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in stable condition. Police did not immediately know whether Jones was hit by a stray bullet or whether he was the victim of a drive-by shooting.
Detective Robin Pinkard of the Miami-Dade Police Department told Patch on Monday that Jones was expected to be released from the hospital sometime on Monday. The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. at 30th Avenue and NW 51 Street. (Sign up for our free Daily Newsletters and Breaking News Alerts for the Coral Gables-Coconut Grove Patch.)

Pinkard said that there were a number of gunshots reported in the nearby area on Sunday night, which is why police were unable to say with certainty whether Jones was hit by a stray bullet.
