I-95 Fifth Most Dangerous Highway In Nation: Study

The ranking is based on traffic fatality data gleaned from US numbered and interstate highway systems over a five-year period.

CORAL GABLES, FL — Two Miami area highways rank among the 25 most dangerous in the nation, according to a recent study. The 25 Most Dangerous Interstates found that Interstate 95 was the fifth most dangerous highway while Interstate 75 ranked 11th. The rankings were determined by GPS software management company Teletrac Navman.

Interstate 95, which runs 1,920 miles from Miami to Weston, Massachusetts, had an average of .73 fatalities every mile with the deadliest city along the route deemed to be Jacksonville. I-75 runs 1,786 miles from Miami Lakes to Sault Saint Marie, Michigan. I-75 averaged .599 fatalities per mile with the deadliest city deemed to be Atlanta.

Other Florida highways were also ranked among the top five most dangerous interstates. State Road 192, a 75-mile highway that connects Four Corners to Indialantic, was ranked the third most dangerous roadway in the United States with .867 deaths per mile.

Interstate 4 which connects Tampa, Orlando and Daytona Beach, was the single deadliest highway in the country, accounting for 165 traffic fatalities between 2011-2015. That's 1.25 deaths per mile. So far this year, there have been 21 fatal crashes on the 132-mile interstate.

I-95 experienced 1,402 fatal accidents between 2011 and 2015 while I-75 had 1,070.
