Managing Coral Gables' Urban Forest Tree Canopy

The City of Coral Gables has been named a Tree City USA for the past 35 consecutive years.

The City of Coral Gables has been named a Tree City USA for the past 35 consecutive years, and the City takes the job of managing our urban forest canopy very seriously.

With five arborists on staff, the City manages the overall health and protection of about 39,000 trees planted on City property and rights-of-way. For public safety, the City manages the risks associated with tree failures, and approximately 125 trees are removed every year when a tree dies, the structural integrity of a tree is compromised, a tree poses a safety hazard, or when a tree is a problematic invasive species. The City has six contracted full-time tree pruning crews.

When a tree in your neighborhood is scheduled to be removed, the City will post a pink tree removal permit on the tree, typically for two weeks or longer, and will notify nearby properties of the upcoming removal work through informational doorhangers left at their homes. Trees that pose an immediate life safety hazard are removed immediately and are typically trees that are actively failing or that have fallen.

For any tree questions, contact trees@coralgables.com or 305-722-TREE (8733).
