Merrick Park Shooting: 1 Killed, 2 Wounded In Coral Gables (UPDATE)

The shooting took place at the shopping center Saturday.

CORAL GABLES, FL — One person was killed and two others wounded in a shooting at the Village of Merrick Park Saturday afternoon, according to police.

Miami-Dade police confirmed that the shooting has resulted in at least one death.

"Upon confirming with the city of Coral Gables Police Department, the scene is secure and no one is in danger at this time," Detective Alvaro Zabaleta told Patch on Saturday afternoon. "We will provide further information upon speaking with investigators on the scene."

The shooting took place around 1 p.m. and the scene was secured by around 1:45 p.m., a police spokeswoman told the Herald. The person killed in the shooting is believed to be the shooter.

“I heard people say there was a shooting, there was a rifle,’’ a shopper told the Herald.

Police descended on the mall and the shooting sent shoppers into a panic.
